Z is for

ZONOPHONE
In the USA, a very short lived rival to Victor, which bought and scrapped it. In America the name was always shown as Zon-O-Phone. The European companies were likewise acquired by The Gramophone Co. but here the label was retained as the 'budget' series (UK production credited to the British Zonophone Co. Ltd) - at first single-sided as Zonophone Record. It was then merged with the Twin label (qv) as the double-sided Zonophone Twin - and the Twin designation was later dropped in favour of plain Zonophone. In 1934 it was merged with Regal
