V is for

VICTOR and VICTROLA
The company which dominated the American market from 1900 through its acquisition by RCA and through the early 1980s until its absorbtion into SonyBMG. Victor succeeded the comapny founded by disc record inventor Emile Berliner and is iconic to the USA as HMV is to Britain. ( Very much more to come). Victrola was the name given to internal horn talking machines, and was applied (slightly haphazardly) to the higher priced red label discs - though when re-introduced in the late 50s it was as a budget rissue LP imprint.
